Upcoming PFA Event – Annual Quiz Night at JLS Saturday 19th November 2011

PFA Candlelight SupperCandlelight Supper for Teenage Cancer Trust

On Saturday 5th March, the Boyd Campbell Hall was transformed into a formal hotel style ballroom with full service tables, linen, candles, twinkling lights and beautiful flowers. 120 guests had a sumptuous three course meal, with waiter service expertly provided by boys from the Sixth Form. The event was in aid of the schools current chosen charity, The Teenage Cancer Trust and after dinner there was an auction of an amazing array of items and experiences, such as golf days, spas, dinners and a VIP trip around Lords Cricket ground, all kindly donated by individuals and companies supporting the event. Clive Gardiner (Year 10/11 parent) stepped in at the last minute as auctioneer and did an excellent job cajoling each table into bidding generously for each item so that the auction alone raised over 2000. There was then music from The SoulMates which encouraged everyone to hit the dance floor. Together with tickets sales and the raffle, over 5000 was raised on the night, a wonderful sum for such a worthwhile cause. Many thanks go to Nicky Smith and Claire Agius (Year 8 parents) who came up with the idea, persevered in overcoming obstacles along the way and who worked so tirelessly to make it such a memorable evening. Thanks also to Russell and Peter who always support the PFA with the catering and to all the Sixth Formers who gave up their Saturday evening for us and provided a wonderful sense of community spirit. Finally thank you to all the parents and friends who came along and made the evening such a great occasion

PFA Quiz NightThe annual PFA Quiz Night

The Parents’ and Friends’ Association Quiz Night on 13th November was a lively and enjoyable evening. Fourteen teams competed for the first prize of a case of wine and in a close fought -and very competitive - contest, “The Canon Balls” were the winners. Thank you to Michael Gibson, the School Bursar, who once again proved to be an entertaining and challenging quiz master. Thanks also to Mr Pipin Parekh, a Year 7 parent, who donated a meal for two at Mumbai Junction for the raffle. A special mention to our two Year 9 boys, Adam Woolley and Thomas Marshall, who stepped in to help with the scoring and sold a huge amount of raffle tickets for us!

The next date to put in your diaries is a Candlelight Supper on Saturday 5th March, proceeds of which will be going to the School’s chosen charity, The Teenage Cancer Trust. Details will be sent out in the school mailing in January.

Our 2010 Bollywood Night

The May Bollywood Dinner & Dance held at the school was a resounding success! The evening was a sell-out with fantastic food, prizes, entertainment and company! We are already starting to plan Bollywood Evening 2011 and would love any help.
